On January 13, the 5th Far East Innovation Competition 2023, hosted by Far Eastern University, was a complete success. With the increasing demand for electric vehicles and renewable energy, the demand for high-performance lithium-ion batteries is also growing. As a result, the development and production process of lithium copper foil is constantly advancing to meet the higher requirements for battery performance and durability.


The elongation of the traditional process 8/9 μm Puyen lithium copper foil is low (≥5%), which will cause the lithium ion battery in the electrochemical cycle process, by alternating stress, wrinkling, broken band and other problems frequently occur, which will affect the negative electrode production yield, battery capacity, internal resistance and cycle life, not only make the production cost increase, At the same time, the battery cell enterprises face greater quality and safety risks, which is the difficulty and pain point in the development of the all-lithium battery industry. The elongation rate is reduced, and the light will produce customer complaints, resulting in customer returns; If it is heavy, it will affect the safety and stability of the vehicle during driving. Therefore, more and more downstream customers have greater demand for high-extension 8/9μm copper foil products.


In view of the current industry pain points of traditional process high-extension copper foil products and the problems encountered by customers in the testing process, the R & D team of Far East copper Foil Technology R & D team took the phase II testing machine of Taixing Base as the test object, and optimized the ratio and type of high-extension 8/9μm lithium copper foil additives. To meet customer requirements of high-elongation 8/9μm lithium copper foil products (elongation ≥10%), to solve its difficulties, and to withstand customer testing. R&d personnel through repeated debugging, the introduction of new additives, to obtain the best concentration ratio, thus obtaining comprehensive performance of excellent high-elongation products.


Experimental data show that after 30 days of shipment of traditional process products, the copper foil elongation is less than 10%, which does not meet customer requirements; The innovative process elongation can still reach more than 12.7% after 90 days of shipment. Since March 2023, we have been supplying our innovative process high extension 8/9μm copper foil products to important customers.


At present, our company is actively engaged in technical exchanges with additive suppliers, has purchased new additives in Taixing base for 8/9μm high-resistance copper foil test, follow-up will continue to promote 4.5/5/6μm ultra-thin copper foil high-resistance, high-elongation product development, is expected to achieve a breakthrough in the comprehensive performance of copper foil products through the introduction of new additives.
